The purpose is to ask consumers to support Black-owned businesses on this day by shopping at them or giving their patronage. Musician DJ Swiss created it.

Desert X (US-CA): March 4 - May 7

Returning from the last exhibit in Saudi Arabia, Desert X is back in California, highlighting the Cahuilla People of the Coachella Valley, where this year's event occurs. Desert X, inaugurated in 2016 in the California desert and is a regular international contemporary art exhibition held in desert locations with exhibits by acclaimed international artists. Its purpose is multi-fold. It's about the temporary art exhibits supporting desert ecosystems and indigenous communities and promoting cultural exchange. The theme of Desert X changes year to year, and in 2020 and 2022, the production went international in Saudi Arabia's famed Al Ula mountains. Desert X is always free to the public.

Holy Experiment Day (1681): March 4

Holy Experiment Day marks an auspicious day in American History. On March 4, 1681, William Penn received a charter from King Charles II of England granting Penn specifically, and the Quakers by default, sole ownership, and rule over 45,000 square miles. It later became the state of Pennsylvania. But why 'Holy Experiment' to mark the anniversary? The term dates back to the Quaker movement in the United States. Upon arriving in the New World, their objective was to create a faith-based community where they could live their lives according to the tenants of their faith. The first settlement they founded was Salem in 1675, and that experiment went a little array with the infamous Salem Witch Trials. With the receipt of land from the King, the center of the Holy Experiment moved to Penn's Woods or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on this day in 1681.

Iditarod (US-AK): March 4-18

The Iditarod National Historic Trail ran 938 miles (1,510 km) from Seward to Nome and was used during the gold rush years. Teams of dogs brought much-needed supplies to rural areas of Alaska during its unforgiving winters. The Iditarod dog sled race, which follows the original trail, is 1,049 miles and takes 8-13 days to run. It usually starts each year on the first Saturday of March. The modern Iditarod was first run in 1973. It is considered one of the most challenging endurance sports in the world. Sled dogs were used for transportation in Alaska up through the 1950s. The invention of the snowmobile replaced the dog teams. In 1973 the Iditarod was created to hold on to that heritage. The route alternates every other year, trading off between the northern and southern routes mid-race. Each year, the race runs in Anchorage and ends in Nome, Alaska.
