Emma Stokes picked up the event in 2013 and turned it into a worldwide event with activities in over 30 countries. Mad Hatter Day occurs on October 6 (10/6) each year in the US and June 10 (10/6) in the United Kingdom. The day is a hat tip to illustrator Jogn Tenniel's interpretation of the Mad Hatter in Louis Carrol's Alice Through the Looking Glass (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland). In his illustrations, the Mad Hatter always wears a hat with a slip of paper that says "In this style 10/6". In the United Kingdom, Mad Hatter Day is celebrated on June 10, as Europeans read dates differently than Americans, with the day first and the month second. Who's right? Who cares! Americans celebrate this day as a "Second April's Fool's Day" each October, and the Brits quietly disagree, preferring to celebrate in June.

Baby Jumping Festival (ES): June 11

Europe has some fascinating traditions, often originating in ancient pagan traditions or Christianity. The Baby Jumping Festival of Castrillo de Murcia, Spain, is one such amusing event. The festival's main event involves a group of men dressed in red and yellow costumes, known as the Colacho, jumping over mattresses with babies lying on them. All the babies born during the past year are gathered on mattresses in the town center on the Sunday after the Christian holiday of Corpus Christi. Men dressed as devils run down the street and jump over the babies in a symbolic gesture to cleanse all newborns of their original sin and ensure their safe passage into adulthood. Referred to as El Salto del Colacho in Spanish, it is a highly anticipated climax to a week of festivities, including a procession through the streets, traditional music and dancing, and other cultural events. It is a unique and fascinating celebration that attracts locals and tourists worldwide. This event began in 1620.

Children's Day observations in the United States predate Mother's and Father's Day, and the first such was acknowledged prior to the 1860s. Since 2007, the governor of Illinois has proclaimed "Children's Day" on the second Sunday in June. Also, such cities as Aurora, Il.; Batavia, Il.; Fort Collins, Co.; Vancouver, WA.; and other American cities have issued proclamations. Numerous churches and denominations currently observe the second Sunday in June, including the African Methodist Episcopal Church, African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, and the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. The significance of the 2nd Sunday in June is its proximity to Father's Day, which occurs on the 3rd Sunday in June. There is a grassroots attempt to make National Children's Day part of the official US observance calendar. June 1 is International Children's Day, and November 20 is Universal Children's Day.
