Popularized by Bailey's Irish Cream in 2011 as part of an advertising campaign, Friendsgiving is a more casual version of the Thanksgiving feast that leaves the family behind and brings friends together. Typically it occurs the day after Thanksgiving but can be any friend-attended dinner party during the holiday season between November 15 and January 1 each year. The origin of this event is an episode of The Real Housewives of New Jersey called "Gobblefellas," in which the women competed against each other to host the best Friendsgiving party.

The annual Fur-Free Friday protest occurs on the Friday following Thanksgiving, historically the busiest shopping day of the year. Protesters throughout the world stand in front of shops selling furs and animal pelts, attempting to educate and spread awareness to shoppers about the horrors of the fur industry. Each year, approximately 50 million animals raised on fur farms die for their pelts; this number does not include over a billion rabbits killed yearly.

She is considered one of the great martyrs of the faith. Old Maid's Day honors her sacrifice on the feast day attributed to her. It is a day for single women to get out and meet potential mates, no matter their age.

Random Acts of Kindness Friday: November 25

Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Friday occurs on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. It's about taking the commercialism out of the day and focusing on the season's true spirit. Celebrants are encouraged to forego the shopping bag and instead look for ways to perform random acts of kindness for others. Dr. Chuck Wall, a professor at Bakersfield College, recalled hearing about "random, senseless acts of violence" on the news in 1993 and was inspired to assign his students the task of committing "one random act of senseless kindness" as homework. He has since copyrighted the phrase and created several events to promote the concept.

Buy Nothing Day, also called Rebel Against Consumerism Day, is observed on the Friday after Thanksgiving, referred to as Black Friday, in the US and Canada. The rest of the world joins in on Saturday. Founded by Ted Dave and promoted by Canada-based magazine Adbusters, this campaign raises awareness of over-consumerism and over-consumption. On this day, there are protests, including cutting up credit cards. Observants refrain from shopping for 24 hours and turn off their utilities.

Saint Catherine's Day (C): November 25

Saint Catherine’s Day in November honors Saint Catherine of Alexandria (287-305AD). The daughter of the governor of Alexandria, she is considered one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers in Catholicism and a martyr in Orthodox Christianity. She was executed as a teenager, approximately three years after converting to Christianity at 14, by Roman emperor Maxentius for her dedication and after refusing to marry him and stating her spouse was Jesus Christ. Her feast day is the 25th of November. On this day, unmarried women attend a ball to honor the saint wearing a hat, especially for this occasion.

Violence Against Women, International Day to Eliminate (1960): November 25

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is a United Nations-sponsored event held annually on the anniversary of the assassination of the three Mirabel sisters in the Dominican Republic on November 25, 1960. The sisters were staunch advocates of women's rights and were executed on the orders of then-ruler Rafael Trujillo. Violence against women is the most extreme form of discrimination. From 2005 to 2016, for 87 countries, 19 percent of women between 15 and 49 years of age said they had experienced physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner in the previous year. Extreme cases often lead to death. In 2012, almost half of all women who were victims of intentional homicide were killed by an intimate partner or family member, compared to six percent of male victims. Another extreme case of violence against women is female genital mutilation. This practice has declined by 24 percent since 2000 but remains high in 30 countries with representative data. In those countries, a 2015 survey indicated that more than one in three girls between 15 and 19 years of age has undergone the procedure decreased from one in two girls before 2000. Moreover, only over half (52 percent) of women between 15 and 49 years of age who are married or in a relationship make their own decisions about consensual sexual relations and contraceptives and health services based on available data from around 2012 for 45 countries, 43 of which are in developing regions. Research also shows that achieving gender equality helps prevent conflict, and high rates of violence against women correlate with outbreaks of conflict. Despite the evidence, actions for women's inclusion, leadership, and protection remain inadequate. In some areas, there has even been a rollback in progress.
