One of the nation's longest-running craft beer festivals (1988), the Oregon Brewers Festival is considered a craft beer destination. British Open (Golf)(UK): July 10-17

The British Open, or "The Open," is the oldest of the four major championships in professional golf. Held in the United Kingdom and organized by The R&A (The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews), it's the only major golfing championship held outside of the United States before 2022. That year, Saudi Arabia introduced the LIV Golf Invitational, which may play outside of the United States in years to come.

Buddhist Lent (B) (Vassa): July 13- October 9

Buddhist Lent marks the start of the Wan Khao Phansa, a period of three lunar months during which Buddhist monks return to their temples and sequester. It is a reenactment of the habits of The Buddha. He chose to stay closed in a temple during rainy seasons to preserve life by avoiding killing by stepping on an insect or a plant. Monks today spend this period studying, meditating, and teaching. They are allowed to briefly go outside the temple during the day and sleep in the same temple nightly. Banks close on the first day of Wan Khao Phansa in Buddhist countries, and alcohol is avoided.

Build-a-Scarecrow Day: July 3

Build a Scarecrow Day celebrates the straw-stuffed pants, shirt, and hat assembled to protect crops from birds, mounted on a stick to look like a man. Scarecrows have attained an iconic stature in modern pop culture. They have been a part of our agricultural tool kit for centuries. The earliest written account of scarecrows occurred in 1592. Today is a day to teach children about the role of scarecrows (outside of the Wizard of Oz) and build one for your garden.

Big Butterfly Count is the second week of July through the first week of August. This nationwide survey updates the status of the environment. Created seven years ago, this has become the biggest butterfly counting survey event in the UK, with more than 400,000 butterflies counted each year. People flock to parks, school grounds, gardens, and forests to count butterflies on a sunny day. Download the identification chart at www.bigbutterflycount.org. During Prohibition, Chef Caesar Cardini invented the Caesar Salad at his restaurant Ceasar's, located in Hollywood, California. Of Mexican and Italian ancestry, he chose America as his home in the early 1920s. The salad is known for its distinctive dressing, which uses raw egg, lemon juice, Worcestershire Sauce, mustard, and other ingredients. In 1948 he trademarked it. Caesar Salad is one of the most popular salads in the world.

Canada Day (CA)(1867): July 1

Canada Day is Canada's National day. On July 1, 1867, the British North America Act was enacted, creating the country of Canada within the British Empire and empowering it with full self-governing authority. Before this day, the Canadian territory was three different regions. The holiday was known as Dominion Day until 1982 when it changed to Constitution Day. 1982, Canada finally declared its independence from the British Crown and ratified its constitution. Today this compilation of historical events is known as Canada Day, a day equivalent to the 4th of July in the United States for the Canadians. However, Canadians did not need to fight a revolution to establish and enact their constitution. The monarch in the United Kingdom continues as their monarch. When Canada Day falls on a weekend, it is observed as a national holiday on the following Monday.
