The Freedom of Information Act was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on July 4, 1966. It provides the public unprecedented access to government documents for a variety of purposes including research, journalism and law. It took 12 years for the landmark legislation to go from idea to law, thanks in large part to the dogged efforts of California Congressman John E. Moss. National Sunshine Week is an awareness campaign focusing on the importance of the Freedom of Information Act and its contributions to accurate journalism. It is observed throughout the nation by media organizations, schools, universities and libraries and coupled with a public relations campaign. The event first appeared in 2005. Sunshine week marks the birthday of James Madison, the father of the U.S. Constitution. He was born March 16, 1751,

For Hindus, Ekadashi is a sacred event and falls into two categories: monthly and annually. Lord Vishnu is honored monthly on Ekadeshi. Annually the event is expanded during the months of February or March for Ekadeshi of Phalgun Shukla Paksha. In the Hindu calendar this celebration falls between Maha Shivratri and Holi. Each observance day is marked with by a day-long fasting in honor of Lord Vishnu according the strict rituals, rules and regulations. The purpose of fasting is to show sacrifice in order to receive the love and affection from the Hindu god Lord Vishnu. PLEASE NOTE: We use the Indian Civil Calendar, which is the official holiday calendar in India, the largest Hindu nation. The Hindu faith has many calendars, each specific to different regions and tribes with dates and celebrations marked by differing positions of the sun, moon and stars.
