Shabbat Nachamu commemorates the comfort experienced during suffering of the Jewish people in the time of Isaiah. Shabbat is 'Sabbath' or 'Saturday' in Hebrew. This is the first of the seven Sabbaths in which haftarot (readings from the Book of Prophets) are performed leading up to the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. The Jewish Shabbat begins at sundown on Friday and ends at sundown on Saturday.

The Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards are dedicated to generating awareness of, and appreciation for comics, graphic novels and related popular art forms, including participation in and support of public presentations, conventions, exhibits, museums, and other public outreach activities celebrating the historic and ongoing contribution of comics to art and culture. Named for acclaimed comics creator Will Eisner, (March 16, 1917 - January 3, 2005), the awards were created in 1988, and highlight the best publications and creators in comics and graphic novels.

Summer Olympics, Tokyo (JP): July 23 - August 8

Rescheduled to 2021 due to COVID-19. The 2020 Summer Olympics will occur in Tokyo, Japan and feature 50 sporting disciplines. This is the second summer games to occur in Japan and the fourth in total. The Olympics are the largest competition of amateur athletics in the world and include both the summer and winter games, each held every four years on alternating two year periods. The first ever Olympic games were held in Greece in 776BC. These ran for over 1000 years until they were suspended in 392AD. In 1896 Baron Pierre de Coubertine led an initiative to re-establish the multi-national sporting event and the rest is history. Amelia Earhart Day (1897): July 24

Amelia Mary Earhart was born on July 24, 1897 in Aitchison Kansas. She is the 16th woman in history to receive a pilots license from the FAI and is best known as the first woman to fly solo over the Atlantic Ocean. In 1937 she undertook the monumental challenge of attempting to be the first woman to fly around the world. On July 2, 1937 around 8:45 her last message was received and her plane disappeared. Neither the plane nor her body have ever been found. Amelia Earhart day occurs each year on her birthday. It is a celebration of her life and her accomplishments.
