A motor vehicle is stolen every 45-seconds in the United States, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In 2015, nearly three-quarters of a million vehicles were stolen in the United States. Vehicle theft is a billion-dollar crime, with the cost of stolen vehicles at more than $5 billion in 2015 alone — up from $4.5 billion in 2014. To help drivers keep their vehicles safe, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is resuming its annual vehicle theft prevention campaign during July, National Vehicle Theft Prevention Month. Waterpark Day, Ntl.: July 28

Studies show that children who regularly spend time and are comfortable around water are healthier and have increased self-confidence. In advance of National Waterpark Day on July 28, Kalahari Resorts and Sparks donated to the USA Swimming Foundation's "Make A Splash" program, which funds swimming lessons for children. "We are obviously passionate about waterparks and have seen first-hand how they provide the perfect atmosphere to spend quality time having fun with your family and making lasting memories," said Travis Nelson, spokesperson, Kalahari Resorts and Conventions. "We founded National Waterpark Day as the perfect occasion to create those moments."

Wayne Nebraska Chicken Day (US-NE): July 8

Coordinated by the Wayne Area Chamber of Commerce, the Chicken Show is a festive annual event held on the second Saturday in July. Founded in 1981 by the Wayne Regional Arts Council, the theme of "chickens" was chosen because of: The potential for art materials. Most people have knowledge and familiarity with chickens. Chickens are humorous. The Wayne Chicken Show received the 1996 Nebraska Outstanding Tourism Award and was selected in 1999, along with four other community events in America, for Library of Congress inclusion. Wayne Chicken Show 2005 was the winner of two Nebraska State Pinnacle Awards given by the Nebraska Festival and Events, Inc. The Collectible 25th Anniversary Egg was awarded the "Most Unique" merchandise item, and the other award was for best "Festival Photo."

Whistleblower Appreciation Day, Ntl. (1778): July 30

On July 30, 1778, despite being in the height of the Revolutionary War, the Continental Congress unanimously voted to side with ten whistleblowers who had reported misconduct committed by the Continental Navy's Commander in Chief. Congress sanctioned the Commander and paid for the whistleblowers' defense against him, declaring: "That it is the duty of all persons in the service of the United States, as well as all other inhabitants thereof, to give the earliest information to Congress or any other proper authority of any misconduct, fraud, or misdemeanors." National Whistleblower Day recognizes the sacrifices and courage of whistleblowers and their enduring importance to the health and safety of our nation. It also marks the anniversary of adopting the National Whistleblower Law of 1778.

The Wimbledon Championships, or simply Wimbledon, is the world's longest-running and most prestigious tennis tournament. First held in London in 1877, Wimbledon is one of four significant tournaments called The Grand Slam. The winners of these tournaments determine the top tennis players in the world. In addition to Wimbledon, the Grand Slam includes the Australian, French, and US Open. Wimbledon is unique because the tournament is played on grass rather than on a hard court. Wrong Way Corrigan Day (1938): July 17

Wrong-Way Corrigan Day celebrates the anniversary of the New York to Dublin flight by Douglas "Wrong Way" Corrigan. On July 17, 1938, Corrigan tricked the US Government authorities. They insisted he could not fly to Dublin in his nine-year-old plane because it was too old. Not to be deterred, Corrigan filed an alternate flight plan to fly west across the US to Long Beach, California. The government was quite surprised when he landed in Dublin 28 hours and 13 minutes after takeoff. Corrigan became an instant American and Irish folk hero by successfully hoodwinking the US government. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) did not exist in 1938. It was created on August 23, 1958.
