These activities can include, but are not limited to: household tasks, socializing and/or managing money. Learning Disabilities Week in the United Kingdom seeks to reach government, business owners and leaders through the voices of people with a learning disability. Their objective is to make the United Kingdom a better place for people with a learning disability, their families and caregivers.

Refugee Day, World: June 20

World Refugee Day highlights the plight, strength and courage of more than 65 million refugees throughout the world [2018]. Although not declared a public holiday, the world observes it to emphasize the situation of refugees. In many places it is observed for an entire week. On December 4, 2000, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 20 as World Refugee Day under Resolution 55/76 starting 2001. That year marked the 50th year of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees. This celebration also coincides with the Africa Refugee Day. Amnesty International and International Rescue Committee organize activities that include protests against detention of migrants and asylum seekers and petitions to various government organizations on the treatment of refugees in detention. Sponsored by the charity organization of the same name that is based in Minnesota, this occasion is started in 1992. Considered as the largest motorcycle event in the country, the organization that handles this celebration was incorporated in 200 by Andy Golffine, the Aerostich owner. This celebration is also held in other countries including Australia, UK, Germany and Israel.

Supreme Court Decisions Month: June

Decisions of the US Supreme Court arrive in June before the conclusion of its legal year. For my non-American readers, this is how the Supreme Court fits into the US government. US GOVERNMENT PRIMER The United States is a representative republic built upon democratic and socialist principles. The federal government's power resides in three separate but equal institutions. The tasks, or job descriptions of each branch, are outlined in the US Constitution. Later amendments were added to the Constitution defining the population's rights or clarifying statements in the Constitution. The Executive branch is the elected office of the presidency, departments, and its appointed leaders. It administers the country, engages in international affairs, and facilitates interstate commerce and freedom of movement between states while defending and protecting national borders, interests, resources, and assets. The executive branch oversees social welfare and cooperative programs. These are policies and programs designed to support and benefit the population, society, or social well-being. These include in whole or in part interstate public transportation, national parks, education, retirement benefits, some health care, disaster relief, industry subsidies, federal holidays, and programs for the poor and disabled. The Executive branch cannot declare war, make laws, impose taxes, or determine the national budget. These actions require Congress. Criminal and civil law enforcement falls under justice; the executive branch cannot imprison or arrest American citizens on American soil. These distinctions are vital in separating the executive branch powers from absolute monarchies and dictatorships, which retain these powers. In the US system, no branch or individual has absolute power. The Legislative branch (Congress) is the people's elected representatives through the House of Representatives. State representation is via the Senate. Currently, US territories and districts do not have representation in the Senate, though some do have non-voting honorary congressional representation in the House. The legislative branch's job is to ensure the people's will is incorporated into decisions, represent their constituents, make laws, and determine the federal budget and taxes. Only Congress can declare war, create taxes, or create new laws (bills). Interpretation of these laws is the job of the judicial branch. The Judicial branch is the third. It interprets constitutional law and interstate law. It defines how these are applied and has the power to arrest and detain persons, settle differences between states, deal with interstate crime, and serve as a check on both congressional power and executive power. Agencies including the FBI, US Marshals, DEA, and all federal courts and prisons fall under the judicial branch. The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) is the top federal court and includes nine justices. Presidents appoint these. SCOTUS is the highest court a petitioner can appeal. Its determination is considered final. The absence of a retirement age or term limits for the justices is a unique quirk in American democracy. SCOTUS justices serve for life.

Founded in 2014, International Tennis Day (ITD) is supported by the United States Court Tennis Preservation Foundation and tennis clubs worldwide. The purpose of ITD is to motivate players and to attract new enthusiasts to the sport. Modeled on the successful World Squash Day, International Tennis Day occurs annually on 20 June. This is the anniversary of the "Tennis Court Oath" June 20, 1789.

Vanilla Milkshake Day: June 20

Milkshake, the word, first appeared in 1885 and the concoction was combined with whisky and resembled eggnog of today. By the beginning of the twentieth century, milkshakes had evolved to a wholesome treat of milk, ice cream and flavored syrup. The invention of the blender moved milkshakes closer to what we know today and they became a mainstay of soda fountains and later fast food restaurants in the decades to come. Aboriginal Day, Ntl. (CA): June 21

The growing movement for Aboriginal rights in Canadian led to calls for greater recognition of the contributions of Aboriginal peoples to Canadian society. Shortly after the adoption of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms in 1982, the National Indian Brotherhood, the leading body representing First Nations in Canada, called for the creation of a yearly "National Aboriginal Solidarity Day" on June 21st. Pressure for a national day of recognition continued to grow during the following decade as new ways were sought to bridge the divide between Aboriginal peoples and Canadians, especially in the wake of the 1990 Oka Crisis. In 1995, the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples recommended the designation of a "National First Peoples Day" as a way to focus attention on the history, achievements and contributions of Aboriginal peoples in Canada. This message was repeated later that year during the Sacred Assembly, a national conference chaired by Elijah Harper, which called for a national holiday to celebrate the contributions of Aboriginal peoples. On June 13, 1996, after considerable consultation with Aboriginal organizations, June 21st was officially declared National Aboriginal Day.

ASK Day is about gun safety. It is a day to remind parents, caretakers and teens to ask, "Is there an unlocked gun in your house?" Safe storage of guns saves lives. Each day in the United States an average of eight children are injured or killed by an unsecured gunn. 4.6 million children live in homes with unlocked and loaded guns. 20% of children have handled a gun without adult supervision. ASK Day is a safety campaign and awareness campaign. Ask if a home has an unsecured gun. This one conversation may save a life!

Cuckoo Warning Day is celebrated on the first day of summer, and has been since the 19th Century. It is said that when you hear a cuckoo on this day, there will be a wet summer. The cuckoo bird is a migratory species that spends its spring and summer in Europe and winter in Africa. Like the groundhog predicting the end of winter, the cuckoo determines the intensity of the summer rains.
