National Financial Capability Month was created by Presidential proclamation and is sponsored by the US Government. The focus is on robust consumer education and helping every individual take ownership of their financial future by ensuring everyone has access to the information and tools that empower them to operate safely and with astuteness in the marketplace. Unlike Financial Literacy Month, which focuses on debt management, also in April, Financial Capability Month focuses on the economy as a whole. This event includes small business and building an economy that employs more and more Americans. National Financial Capability Month is about the entire economy and what every person, business and institution brings to it. Financial Literacy Month: April

Financial Literacy Month first occurred in 2000 and has been run during the month of April ever since. The purpose of the month is to highlight the importance of financial literacy and teach Americans how to establish and maintain healthy financial habits. These include savings, investing, managing credit effectively, getting out of debt, planning for retirement, a first home and college for children. Most Americans experience their first run in with credit and debt during college. A large portion of the programs are geared towards college students and helping them learn to manage debt and spending's wisely. With the ever-popular memes and jokes that the US educational system teaches students about everything except relevant and real-life solutions to problems, including how to deal with finances, this event is much-needed and gaining more and more popularity across the country.

First Full Male Genital Transplant Successfully Completed (2018): April 23

Today is the one year anniversary of the announcement of the first successful full genital transplant of a penis and scrotum on an injured vet at John Hopkins, April 23, 2018. The recipient is a US Sergeant wounded by an IED and the actual surgery occurred in late March 2018. After nearly a month in recovery, the announcement of success was made. Until now, men injured on the job, through sports or in battle in this most sensitive area were doomed to live their lives without a critical component of manhood, self-esteem, intimacy and basic bodily functions. This pioneering surgery restores hope and a normal life. The ability to successfully transplant these organs likewise increases the possibility of future transplants for limbs.

In 1996 Playfair created International Fun at Work Day to increase awareness of the importance of bringing a playful attitude to work. Studies have shown a playful workplace can inspire creativity, build team spirit and create an atmosphere where people really want to come to work each day. This produces increased productivity. Everyone wins. Take time out on April 1st to engage your coworkers and have a little fun. Go out for lunch, have a meeting on the grass under a tree, or bring a little silly string in to get things started. No matter what you do, the mantra today is have fun! Playfair suggests the following ideas for International Fun at Work Day: Ask all employees to bring in baby photos or pet pictures or High School yearbook photos to post on the bulletin board. Then guess who's who. The Traveling Bouquet. Bring in a bouquet of flowers and present it to one of your co-workers. Tell him or her, I want you to keep this on your desk for the next half-hour. Then pass it on to someone else and tell them to do the same! Hold a Company Limo Lottery. Hold a lottery where the winner gets driven to and from work in the company limo. (If you don't have a company limo, rent one for the day!) Offer your employees some unusual gifts (like free housecleaning certificates) to celebrate the day. Take some Joy Breaks during the day and teach all your employees the art of scarf juggling. . .or play marbles together. Hire an On-site Masseuse for the day. Take a group photo portrait of your office mates dressed up for Clash Dressing Day ... or Polka Dots Day ... or Suspender Day ... or Pajama Day ... or Bad Hair Day! Dog Days of Spring: Let all employees bring their pets to work with them for this fun day celebration! Bring in some champagne (or sparkling apple juice) and take time to toast each other, your successes and your fabulous failures of the past few weeks. Hold an all-employee pizza party ... with the name of your company spelled out across the top of the pies in mushrooms!

Gangaur is a colorful festival in Rajasthan, India. This festival is associated with Parvati, also known as Gauri, the wife of Lord Shiva. Unmarried women worship her in hopes of being blessed with a good husband. Married women worship her for the welfare, health and long life of their husbands as well as insurance for a happy marriage. The festival commences on the first day of Chaitra, the day following Holi, and continues for 16 days. Genocide Remembrance Day (RW)(1994): April 7

April 7, 1994 witnessed the beginning of one the largest massacres of the 20th Century, the Rwanda Genocide. It is a result of a civil war between two ethnic groups: the Hutu and Tutsi. Instigated by the Hutu-led government under two militias, it resulted in 500,000 - 1 million deaths between April and July 15, 1994. The victims were Tutsi, Twa and Hutus who did not support the current regime. Genocide Remembrance Day is a national observance and a day of healing in Rwanda. This day is marked by the United Nations as International Day of Reflection on the Genocide in Rwanda as well.

Go Broke Day (1945): April 5

National Go Broke Day honors the 442nd Regimental Combat Team of the United States Army whose motto was "Go for Broke". The 442nd RCT was an infantry unit composed of American soldiers predominantly of Japanese descent who volunteered to fight in World War II. They emerged as one of the most decorated infantry units in US army history. April 5 1945, in Seravazza, Italy, the first Medal of Honor recipient from the 442nd RCT, Private First Class Sadao Munemori, was killed in action. National Go Broke Day honors Private Munemori and his brothers of the 442nd RCT who put their lives on the line for the rest of us.
