Hanumanh Jayanti is an important Hindu holiday that is celebrated throughout India to commemorate the birth of Hanuman, the son of the Wind god and the princess Anjana. The event is happens on the 15th day of the Shukla Paksha during the month of Chaitra. From early morning, devotees flock to Hanuman temples to worship him. Hanuman is a symbol of strength and energy. Lord Hanuman is a devotee of Lord Rama and, as such, worshipped for his unflinching devotion to that god. Lord Hanuman is worshipped as a deity with magical powers with the ability to conquer evil spirits. Hate Week (1984): April 4-10

There are few books more apropos to modern times than George Orwell's 1949 masterpiece, '1984'. Peace is war. Love is hate. Facts are alternative and news is fake...oh wait, that's today. Back to the book. Everything is the opposite of what you think it is and Big Brother is always watching. Populism backed by ultra-nationalism, with fear and hatred of the 'other', something necessary to 'Make Oceania Great'. Conform, don't question, and above all, shelve your curiosity and don't learn. Corruption runs rampant. Anyone who opposes the status quo is the enemy. In the book, the lead character Winston Smith slowly wakes up to the alternate reality the state has crafted from him as he sees the Hate Rally unfold. On April 4, 1984 (in the book), he does the unthinkable: begins writing his thoughts in a secret diary. It is from this simple act of fictional civil disobedience that Hate Week was created. It's also a reminder that without vigilance, fiction can become fact.

Heartworm Awareness Month, Ntl.: April

National Heartworm Awareness Month focuses on educating pet owners about the dangers and preventative measures they can take to insure their pets do not become victims of heartworm. Since the first diagnosis of canine heartworm disease over one hundred years ago, heartworm infection has been widely recognized throughout the world as one of the major health problems affecting pets today. Heartworm infection is caused by worms (Dirofilaria immitis) that may grow to be 14-inch-long adults. These adult worms live in the right side of the heart and the arteries of the lungs. Heartworm infection can cause serious damage to these arteries, eventually leading to heart failure, and in severe cases, damage to other organs such as the liver and kidneys. Dogs of any age and breed are susceptible to contracting heartworm disease. While cats appear to be more resistant to heartworm infection than dogs, with fewer worms surviving into adulthood, they are still susceptible to infection and can also suffer from the effects of heartworm disease. However, they do not contribute significantly to spreading the infection. Although the risk of heartworm infection varies from state-to-state, heartworm disease has been identified in all of the contiguous 48 states and Hawaii. It is most concentrated in the Southern United States.

Those numbers may sound small for some or huge for others, but this means that of the 7 billion people living on Earth at the moment, 7 million have a bleeding disorder and most of them are not diagnosed and do not receive any treatment. That's why each year we have World Hemophilia Day seeks to raise awareness of what it means to have hemophilia and how to deal with it. Supporters of the event wear red ties for the day.
