This event originated in 2016 as an employee promotion to increase customer satisfaction and foster teamwork in achieving goals. Now National Get Gnarly Day is a day of discovery, action, and experimentation celebrated by everyone. "Gnarly" (pronounced nar-lee) is American English slang, and it can mean disgusting or mega cool. Choose your definition.

Glioblastoma Awareness Day: July 22

Glioblastoma entered medical and scientific literature in the 1920s. It is the most common malignant (cancerous) brain tumor and accounts for 48% of diagnoses. Despite its devastating prognosis, only four drugs and one medical device are approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat it. Each year, over 13,000 new cases of glioblastoma are diagnosed in the United States. To raise awareness and promote research and cures, the US Senate passed Resolution 617 in 2020, designating July 22 as Glioblastoma Awareness Day. This event first ran in 2019.

Graham Cracker Day, Ntl. (1794) : July 5

Graham Cracker Day marks the anniversary of the birth of their inventor, Minister Sylvester Graham, on July 5, 1794. Graham crackers arrived early in the 19th century, and they aimed to promote a vegetarian lifestyle free of sin and combat masturbation. Yes, you read that right. Minister Graham believed that self-pleasuring was sinful and required a cure. He recommended switching to a vegetarian diet and eating whole wheat, bran, and wheat germ crackers to mitigate sexual desire. His followers, "Grahamites," initiated the first sexually abstinent vegetarian movement in the United States that abstained from meat, spices, and sexual activity. Grahamites believed sexual activity and eating meat leads to insanity and blindness. The movement eventually became extinct, but the graham cracker remains, and thank heaven for that. Where would cheesecake be without its graham cracker crust? Or S'mores?

Grand Prix of Austria (AT): July 2

The Austrian Grand Prix is a Formula One motor racing event held in Austria. It has been a part of the FIA Formula One World Championship calendar on and off since 1964. The race has been hosted at two different venues throughout its history: the Zeltweg Airfield and the Red Bull Ring (previously known as the Österreichring and A1-Ring). The first Austrian Grand Prix was held in 1964 at the Zeltweg Airfield circuit, but due to the track's poor conditions and safety concerns, the race was moved to the Österreichring in 1970. The Österreichring hosted the race until 1987, after which the event was discontinued due to safety issues and the need for circuit improvements. The Austrian Grand Prix returned to the Formula One calendar in 1997, after the circuit was renovated and renamed the A1-Ring. The race took place there until 2003 when it was once again removed from the calendar. In 2014, the event made its return after the circuit underwent further renovations and was renamed the Red Bull Ring. Since then, it has remained a fixture on the Formula One calendar. The Red Bull Ring is located in Spielberg, Styria, and is known for its picturesque surroundings, nestled in the Austrian countryside. The circuit is 4.318 km (2.683 mi) long and features a combination of long straights and fast, flowing corners, making it a thrilling and challenging track for drivers and teams. As with any other Formula One event, the Austrian Grand Prix provides an exciting weekend of racing, with practice sessions, qualifying, and the main race.

Each year in July, Group B Strep International sponsors International Group B (GBS) Awareness Month to focus on educating pregnant women about the leading cause of sepsis and meningitis in newborns. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC.), 25% of pregnant women are at risk or carriers. GBS infects babies during pregnancy and their first months of life, and GBS can cause miscarriages, stillborns, and premature birth. Many children who contract GBS become sick, suffer from lifelong handicaps, and/or die.
