If you've been asleep the past twenty years (and you would have had to be), you probably haven't noticed that the entire month of June now wears a rainbow. It is wall-to-wall lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender-queer celebrations, history, memorials, and awareness campaigns worldwide. June 30th marks the end of the month and has become a celebration of LGBTQ with marches, rallies, and parties in many major cities within the nations where same-sex and transgender lifestyles are not banned. In countries where it is still taboo, activists are working on it. Happy World Pride Day.

Considered the world's largest trade show, conference and event for radio professionals, this annual gathering is held each year. In 2022, Paris hosts the event. East Meets West Day (1869): May 10

East meets West Day commemorates the anniversary of the opening of the United State’s first transcontinental rail system. The First Transcontinental Railroad was built between 1863 and 1869 by three private companies over public lands that connected the existing eastern U.S. rail network with the Pacific coast. The railroad opened for the traffic on May 10, 1869. The coast-to-coast railroad connection revolutionized the settlement and economy of the America. It brought the western states and territories into alignment with the northern Union states and made transporting passengers and goods coast-to-coast considerably quicker and less expensive.

Eurovision Song Contest (IT): May 10-14

Created by Marcel Bezençon and modeled after the Sanremo Music Festival (Italy), the Eurovision Song Contest premiered May 24, 1956. One of the super groups to come out of the competition is the group ABBA. The most famous song to come out of Eurovision is Domenico Mudugno‘s Volare. Its objective is to test the limits of live broadcast television technology. The event is known for its innovative performances and widely diverse contestants. In 2015, the Eurovision Song Contest was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the Longest Running Annual TV Music Competition. In 2019, the event occurs in Israel. The World Lupus Day Proclamation was first developed in 2004 when an international steering committee representing lupus organizations from 13 different nations met in Eaton, United Kingdom to organize the first observance of World Lupus Day. The Proclamation is a call to action for governments around the world to increase their financial support for lupus research, awareness and patient services. Each year, the Steering Committee revises the Proclamation to reflect the emerging issues that people with lupus around the world must face every day. The Proclamation serves to give a single voice to all individuals affected by this devastating and debilitating chronic disease.

National Shrimp Day focuses on eating shrimp, but it is also an opportunity to consider the environmental impact of pollution, including oil spills, on the habitat of shrimp and the effect it has on the lives of those whom make their living shrimping. Since the Deep Water Horizon oil spill in 2010 the Gulf Coast States producing American Shrimp have been struggling. Increased competition from South America and Asia as well as the destruction of the natural habitat has placed many shrimpers in dire financial situations. The habitat and the industry are slowly returning to normal due to the efforts of many in several states. Today is an opportunity to eat a beloved form of seafood, but also to contemplate the affect of our activities and humans on the natural resources we need to survive.

The birthday of goddess Sita is celebrated as Sita Navami (Sita Jayanti or Janaki Navami). Lord Rama was also born on the same lunar day. Mata Sita is known for her sincerity and purity.
