This event changes cities/countries each year. The word 'Invictus' is Latin for 'Unconquered'. The Invictus Games are created by HRH Prince Harry of the Britain. He modeled them after the Warrior Games held in the United States each year for wounded soldiers and veterans. The Invictus Games were first held in 2014.

Romani Resistance Day, International (1944): May 16

It was on this day, May 16, 1944, that the Romani people of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, starving and gaunt, rose up against their Nazi captors and resisted, refusing to go to the gas chambers without a fight. Most people are aware of the Nazi Holocaust and what happened to millions of people in Europe because of it. The coverage of the Jewish victims, whom constituted half of those killed and persecuted, has been well documented. But who were the other half? The Nazis targeted a variety of groups they deemed unfit to their social ideals including over 75,000 mentally ill and handicap, people of color, 2.5 million Catholics and Poles, homosexuals and the Romani. Romani are sometimes referred to as Gypsies, Travelers or Roma. Like the Jewish population of Europe the Romani lost 550,000 people, 25% of their total population. And yet, they are rarely mentioned. The Roma wore black triangles on their sleeves instead of yellow stars. Romani were rounded up, starved and executed, often digging their own graves. With the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, more has been revealed about the Romani holocaust experience and researchers believe the actual number of Romani killed may be three times what they originally thought. August 2 is also set aside as International Roma Holocaust Remembrance Day. This day draws special attention to the Roma survivors who continue to struggle with persecution and prejudice to this very day in many parts of Europe and America.

National Sea Monkey Day celebrates the brine shrimp, a group of crustaceans that go through cryptobiosis and are sold in hatching kits as novelty aquarium pets. They are developed in the United States in 1957 by Harold von Braunhut and have been a part of the pop culture ever since. There does not appear to be a specific reason for this date being chosen. It is not the anniversary of the birth/death of the creator, date of patent filing, product premier or trademark acquisition.

CSCMP Announces Inaugural Annual Supply Chain Professionals Day Lombard, Illinois USA (April 9, 2018) - The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) today announced the creation of the inaugural Annual Supply Chain Professionals Day, honoring the professionals responsible for the buy, make, move and sell activities that comprise the modern supply chain. While there exists a National Truck Driver Appreciation Week and a National Healthcare Supply Chain Week, until now, there wasn't yet an official day to celebrate the majority of professionals representing the end-to-end supply chain every day. "Our organization represents thousands of supply chain professionals across the world. The creation of the Annual Supply Chain Professionals Day allows us to recognize this growing and evolving discipline and the professionals who serve within it," said Rick Blasgen, CSCMP President and Chief Executive Officer. The idea for a professional organization of distribution managers (later referred to as logistics managers) was first conceived in May of 1962, to meet an urgent need for continuing education and to provide an opportunity for an interchange of ideas in this rapidly growing profession that has come to be known today as supply chain management. Vesak, or Wesak is commonly referred to as Buddha Day. This is the day the Buddhist faith marks the dawning of the age of enlightenment known as Nirvāna. The exact date varies depending upon country and traditions. The most common date is this. It is based upon the moon and the sun’s position; however, it falls on the full moon in Vaisakha, a month of the Buddhist calendar that is also shared by Hindus. Buddhist mark this day with meditation, observing the eight precepts, partaking in vegetarianism, giving to charity and 'bathing' Buddha statues. Traditionally, Buddhists set this day aside to bring happiness to the unfortunate, which can include the elderly, handicapped and sick. They do so through the distribution of gifts or cash to various charitable homes throughout the country. Vesak became an official Buddhist holiday in 1950; it parallels in importance to the Christian celebration of Christmas and Muslim celebration of Eid al-Fitr.

The Cannes International Film Festival was created on the initiative of Jean Zay, Minister for Education and Fine Arts, who was keen to establish an international cultural event in France to rival the Venice Film Festival. The first edition of the festival was originally set to be held in Cannes in 1939 under the presidency of Louis Lumière. However, WWII got in the way. The first Cannes Film Festival occurred September 20, 1946. In 1952 it moved to May. The most famous pack rat of the 20th century is artist Edward Gorey. He collected everything from mummy’s heads to salt shakers. Gorey died in 2000.
