The civil rights category includes events relating to philanthropy and human rights.

It also includes events that violate human rights as defined by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Rome Statutes, rulings by the International Criminal Court, and definitions set forth by the United Nations. It includes work by NGOs, human rights organizations, historical events, anniversaries, social movements, laws, and other sources.
