ABOUT JULY 2024

July, the seventh month of the Gregorian calendar (established in 1582 with Pope Gregory XIII), has a history of ancient and modern significance. Named after Julius Caesar in 44 BC, it was formerly known as Quintilis in Latin, meaning "fifth month," as it was the fifth month in the early Roman calendar

July is the height of summer in the Northern Hemisphere and deep into winter in the Southern Hemisphere

A significant historical event in July is the celebration of Independence Day on July 4th in the United States, commemorating the Declaration of Independence in 1776. This day is marked by patriotic displays, fireworks, and family gatherings, reflecting the country's historical journey and values of freedom and democracy

ASTROLOGY

July 1-22 fall under the water sign Cancer. July 23-31 are under the fire sign of Leo

BIRTHSTONES

The birthstones of July are the ruby and the carnelian. Rubies, famed for their vivid red color, have been revered since ancient times, symbolizing love, passion, and courage. In many cultures, rubies were believed to bring good fortune and have medicinal properties. Carnelian, a lesser-known but equally historical stone, ranges in color from a deep red to a reddish-brown and is believed to bring vitality and motivation

FLOWERS

July's flowers are the larkspur and the water lily. The larkspur, noted for its tall, spiked blooms, comes in a variety of colors, each carrying a different meaning: pink for fickleness, white for a happy nature, and purple for first love. In contrast, the water lily, often found floating on tranquil ponds, symbolizes purity and the beauty of nature.

LEGENDS

Folk legends associated with July often revolve around agriculture, as it is a critical time for crops in many cultures. One such legend involves the notion of a "July thunderstorm," believed to help crops grow but also feared for its potential to damage them. In some traditions, the first week of July is considered a lucky time for planting and sowing seeds.

Events for the United States, worldwide and regions do not include ISO designations in the event name. Events that are specific to other countries will have the two letter ISO designation in the title. Exception: United Kingdom is (UK) rather than (GB).

Example: Donkey welfare Day (KE): May 17

Translation: "Donkey Welfare Day is observed in Kenya on May 17 this year".

Search "Worldwide" for events that are international and not associated with a specific country.
