DESCRIPTION:
The first day of spring is Día Del Turista (Day of the Tourist) in Mexico, and it is celebrated predominantly in the northern cities and towns bordering the United States.
It’s a day for the vendors in Mexico to thank the snowbirds (Americans who spend the winter months in the Southwestern US and Mexico) who come down during the winter months by offering specials and gifts, including miniature sombrero pins.
The event originated in Nuevo Progreso in the late 1970s. It continues to be a much-anticipated event, especially in Southwestern Texas each year.
