Moshoeshoe's Day has to be one of the most delightful events linguistically. Simply saying Chief Moshoeshoe's name brings a smile to the face. Born in 1776, Chief Moshoeshoe became the first king of the African nation of Lesotho, uniting the Basotho people. He was known for his generosity toward defeated enemies. Upon his death on March 11, 1870, colonialism became a reality for his people.
Today he is celebrated for his diplomacy and as the nation's first king.
