Parasols, sunshades, umbrellas, brolly, parapluie, rain shade, gamp, Bumbershoot or umbrolly, however, you refer to it, today is the day to flaunt superstition and Open an Umbrella Inside Day.
Umbrellas have protected people from the wind, sun, snow, and rain since around 2000 BC. The superstitions originate in pagan faiths that believed that the natural world represented various gods and spirits. It was thought that opening an umbrella indoors would block these spirits or gods, thus leaving you unprotected.
