International Waffle Day is a Swedish event that marks the Our Lady's Day (Vårfrudagen in Swedish, which sounds like a waffle, thus waffle day). Our Lady's Day is the lay term for the Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin, and it is the day the angel Gabriel told the Virgin Mary she would conceive the Messiah in the Christian faith.
Though not usually associated with faith anymore in Sweden, the day continues to be celebrated as waffle day within the nation and elsewhere in the world.
