HISTORY
Sheikh Khaled Bentounes, the spiritual leader of the Alawiya Sufi Order in Algeria, proposed the idea of an International Day of Living Together in Peace. He envisioned a day dedicated to promoting a culture of peace and non-violence.
On December 8, 2017, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 72/130, proclaiming May 16 as the International Day of Living Together in Peace. The resolution acknowledges the need for individuals and communities to live together in peace and harmony, irrespective of their differences.
