About National Adopt-a-Less Adoptable Pet Week

DESCRIPTION:
Many factors can make a pet seem “less adoptable.” Superstition, fear, age, poor reputation, wounds, handicap, illness, and size are each factors that contribute. However, just because a pet is unique doesn’t mean he or she wouldn’t make an excellent pet.
99% of shelters and rescue groups in the Petfinder system have housed these harder-to-place pets. These “less-adoptable” pets wait for a home nearly four times longer than the average adoptable pet, often more than two years!
Nearly all less adoptable pets are euthanized in state-run facilities because they only have a few days to be adopted.

PetFinder created Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week in 2009, celebrating on the third full week of September each year. Today it is supported by shelters and animal lovers nationwide.
