Each year Ataxia UK sponsors International Ataxia Awareness Day. Ataxias are a rare group of neurological conditions that affect balance, coordination, and speech.
The condition doesn't discriminate and can affect anyone of any age. Studies suggest around 10,000 people live in the UK with a form of ataxia. Some forms of ataxia are treatable, but there is still no cure in most cases.
A recent poll showed that only 10% of the UK population have heard of ataxia.
