By this point people are getting tired of the winter weather and its an opportunity to party and bring the tropics inside for a day.
How is it celebrated? Throw a Tahitian or Hawaiian themed party complete with drinks, grass skirts and coconut bras, toast the mid-winter chill and fantasize about warmer climates and times. Yes, it's an excuse for a party and a little bit of wacky fun. We've been unable to figure out where this event originated, but who cares! Get the tequila and the rum ready, little umbrellas and have yourself a blast. After all, winter ends in just 49 more days!
