February 12, 1809 is the birthday of American President Abraham Lincoln. It is also the birthday of Dr. Charles Darwin.
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. As President, he built the Republican Party into a strong national organization and rallied most of the northern Democrats to the Union cause. On January 1, 1863, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation that declared forever free those enslaved within the Confederacy. He was assassinated on April 15, 1865.
Lincoln’s Birthday is also known as Lost Penny Day because it is Lincoln’s profile that appears on the penny. His image also graces the American five dollar bill.
