Today is the anniversary of the founding of the nation state of Israel in 1948, as it aligns with the Hebrew calendar. In country, it is known as Israeli Independence Day, Yom HaAtzma'ut in Hebrew, or the 5th of Iyar. This is a national holiday in Israel.
It marks the day in the Jewish calendar that Israel became a state in 1948. This is a secular holiday, not a religious one. Not all persons of the Jewish faith celebrate Yom HaAtzma'ut.
