DESCRIPTION:
Although African Americans and people of color have been instrumental in every conflict prior to the United States becoming a nation and since, it wasn’t until May 22, 1863 that people of color were made official members of the US military. On the Union side in this case. By the end of the US Civil War, more than 200,000 persons of color were official members of the US army. Colored Troops Founders Day marks this anniversary.
