Rescheduled to 2021 due to COVID-19. The 2020 Summer Olympics will occur in Tokyo, Japan and feature 50 sporting disciplines. This is the second summer games to occur in Japan and the fourth in total.
The Olympics are the largest competition of amateur athletics in the world and include both the summer and winter games, each held every four years on alternating two year periods.
The first ever Olympic games were held in Greece in 776BC. These ran for over 1000 years until they were suspended in 392AD. In 1896 Baron Pierre de Coubertine led an initiative to re-establish the multi-national sporting event and the rest is history.
