Pins and Needles is a day that commemorates the satirical play "Pins and Needles," which debuted on November 27, 1937.
"Pins and Needles is the only hit ever produced by a labor union, and the only time when a group of unknown non-professionals brought a successful musical to Broadway," notes historian John Kenrick.
It was staged and produced by members of the International Ladies Garment Workers Party as a form of entertainment during a strike. The original cast was invited to and performed at the White House in 1938.
