National Radon Action Month raises awareness about the radioactive gas that occurs naturally in the environment and causes serious health problems to those exposed.
Radon comes from the natural decay of uranium found in nearly all soils.
The pollutant emerges from the ground into the air, entering your home through cracks and other holes in the foundation. The structure traps radon inside, where it can build up.
Any home may have a radon problem:
New and old homes
Well-sealed and drafty homes
Homes with or without basements
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and supporting organizations make test kits and public awareness campaigns available throughout the country.
