National Typewriter Day marks the anniversary when Christopher Latham Sholes was granted a United States patent for his typewriting machine on June 23, 1868.
Typewriters changed communication, and letters became professional-looking, creating a format that makes letters more legible than handwritten correspondence. The typewriter has also opened job opportunities for women.
