National Substitute Teacher Appreciation Week, or SubWeek, is five days dedicated to the hundreds of thousands of individuals that fill in for permanent teachers everyday in the United States. It occurs the first full school week in May.
This is an official event recognized by the United States House of Representatives with a purpose of:
Bolstering morale with substitute teachers.
Fostering a sense of loyalty to the district.
Increasing the activity of substitute teachers.
Assisting in awareness by permanent teachers of the contributions of substitute teachers.
Providing incentives for permanent teachers to keep lesson plans current and interesting.
Motivating new individuals to apply for substitute teacher positions.
Facilitating a survey of substitute needs and training for the next school year.
