The Asian countries might be on to something here. White Day occurs one month after Valentine's Day, and its purpose is to allow the recipient of Valentine's gifts the opportunity to make their acceptance of the overture known.
It is typical to give chocolates as an acknowledgment and affirmation of the declaration gift of love. This follow-up event to Valentine's Day began with the Japanese National Confectionery Industry Association in the 1980s and is now observed in several Asian nations.
