DESCRIPTION:
National Poetry Reading Day is a day for appreciating the different forms of poetry, including the sonnet, shi, villanelle, tanka, haiku, ode, and ghazal. It is also a chance to immerse yourself in various genres, including narrative, epic, dramatic, satirical, lyric, elegy, verse fable, prose, and speculative poetry.
You’ll see poetry readings organized in schools, libraries, cafes, and clubs throughout this day. In all their glory, you’ll hear the beautiful words of Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Robert Frost, Mark Twain, Emily Dickinson, and TS Eliot.
