DESCRIPTION:
First held in 2017, World Seabird Day seeks to raise awareness about the ocean’s ‘canaries in the coal mine,’ seabirds.
The day was prompted by the extinction of the Great Auk, with its last recorded sighting on July 3, 1844. Each year, scientists and animal enthusiasts subsequently mark this day of remembrance and seek to take actions that ensure no other species suffers the same fate. For ideas on taking part, see The World Seabird Union. #WorldSeabirdDay
