August 24 was the second time Ukraine declared independence from Moscow. The first time was on January 22, 1918, and freedom would last until 1921, when the Soviet Union took control of the country. As of February 2014, the region of Crimea is under Russian occupation again. In February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine again. As of this update in July 2022, the nations are still at war.
