The search for a new Canadian flag started in 1925 when a committee of the Privy Council began researching possible national flag designs. Forty years later, on February 15, 1965, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, officially proclaimed the Maple Leaf Flag the official banner of Canada.
