DESCRIPTION:
The spring equinox in the northern hemisphere marks the first day of spring and the first day of fall in the southern hemisphere.
An equinox occurs when the sun passes the earth’s equator, and day and night are virtually equal in length.
When Julius Caesar established the Julian calendar in 46 BC, the spring equinox occurred on March 25 due to the slightly longer days of that calendar. Eventually, that date drifted to several different dates depending on the calendars. The spring equinox marks the New Year in the Persian calendar.
