DESCRIPTION:

National Pecan Day marks the anniversary of the planting of the first pecan trees by George Washington on his estate Mount Vernon on March 25, 1775. The trees were gifted to him by Thomas Jefferson.

The pecan is native to North America and was a favorite food of the Native Americans. Prized for its sweet yet nutty flavor, the pecan is featured in many recipes.
