The Chow Chow Food and Cultural Festival brings together local chefs, farmers, artisans, and food producers for a one-of-a-kind experience beyond mere tasting events.
Named after a famous Southern pickled relish, Chow Chow aims to comprehensively celebrate the region's food ecosystem, from farm to table. The festival features an array of activities, including chef-led cooking demonstrations, food and craft markets, panel discussions, and ample opportunities for tasting locally sourced dishes and beverages.
Founded in 2019 by members of the Ashville creative community, the festival has quickly gained traction as a hub for food enthusiasts interested in the unique culinary traditions of Southern Appalachia. The festival celebrates local flavors and explores the cultural stories and sustainable practices that bring those flavors to life.
Chow Chow underscores its mission by engaging in philanthropic efforts. A portion of the festival's proceeds goes toward supporting local food systems and community organizations, reinforcing its commitment to education and social impact in Asheville.
Due to high demand and limited space, advanced ticket purchases and reservations are strongly recommended. Unlike other food festivals, Chow Chow is affordable to the average attendee, with Sunday designated a "Pay what you can" day.
Chow Chow is quickly becoming a regional must-see event for anyone interested in Southern Appalachian cuisine and culture. With its blend of culinary expertise, artisan craftsmanship, and community engagement, the festival serves as a celebration of all things local, making it an essential experience for foodies, culture enthusiasts, and sustainable food advocates alike.
