International Heart Valve Disease Awareness Day grew out of the concerns among healthcare professionals and patient advocacy groups about the lack of widespread knowledge regarding heart valve disease. Despite being a common and serious condition, particularly among the elderly, heart valve disease often goes undiagnosed and untreated due to a lack of awareness among both the public and healthcare providers.
This awareness day addresses the gap in knowledge and advocates for better heart health. It focuses on educating people about the risk factors, symptoms, and treatment options for heart valve disease. The initiative also emphasizes the importance of regular heart check-ups, especially for older adults, as early detection can significantly improve treatment outcomes.
The purpose of International Heart Valve Disease Awareness Day encompasses several key objectives:
Education and Awareness—educate the public about heart valve disease, its symptoms, and its potential impact on health and quality of life. It aims to make people more vigilant about heart health and encourage them to seek medical advice if they experience symptoms.
