DESCRIPTION:
Over 7,000 indigenous languages are in danger of disappearing forever. Their preservation is essential to millions of people's oral histories and cultures.
The International Decade of Indigenous Languages recognizes the importance of this critical tie to culture and history. Throughout the ten years, the United Nations will use this event to draw attention to the escalating loss of indigenous languages and the need to preserve them as an educational medium.
