The last Sunday in April is designated Mother Father Deaf (MFD) Day to acknowledge and celebrate our deaf parents. Many local and deaf parent groups with young CODAs (Children of Deaf Adults) will plan picnics and other events. If you haven't seen the 2021 multiple Oscar-winning film "CODA," it's highly recommended and provides an intimate and comedic view of this dynamic.
Here are some ideas for activities to celebrate MFD Day:
Organize a panel discussion about "what CODA means to me?"
Share a funny experience about being a CODA, having deaf parents, or dealing with hearing people who did not understand our families.
Make Mother-Father-Deaf Day cards to give to deaf parents.
