DESCRIPTION:
Senate Resolution 287 passed on October 5, 2011, and created National Filipino American History Month.
This month promotes understanding, education, enlightenment, appreciation, and enrichment through the identification, gathering, preservation, and dissemination of the history and culture of Filipino Americans in the United States.
There are currently more than 30 Filipino American chapters nationwide and several conferences focusing on this unique culture. October marks the anniversary of the arrival of the first Filipino in America, October 18, 1587.
