In 1935, the first Sunday of August was declared World Friendship Day by Proclamation in the US Congress. Later the United Nations declared Winnie the Pooh the official Ambassador for Friendship.
India and the United States observe this day on the first Sunday in August, and the rest of the world celebrates it on July 30 as the International Day of Friendship. The United Nations created both events, and observance dates vary by nation.
