About National Dog Day

DESCRIPTION:
National Dog Day is set aside in honor of man's best friend, the dog. The date is the anniversary of Ms. Paige's father adopting their first dog, Sheltie, on August 26, 1980.
This celebration also brings to light the plight of rescue dogs. People adopt dogs from shelters and rescue homes, while others bring dogs to dog spas for pampering.
Paige's foundation created 17 pet holidays to promote pet adoption, including National Holistic Pet Care Day, National Dog Day, and National Dress Up Your Pet Day.
