December 7 is the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese empire in 1941. The following day the United States declared war on Germany, Italy, and Japan, thus entering WWII.
National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, Americans honor the more than 2,400 Americans killed that day.
