STDs are an increasing public health concern. The most common are chlamydia, gonorrhea, and infectious syphilis continue to gain traction, with 80% of chlamydia and 70% of gonorrhea occurring in persons aged 15 to 29 years of age.
Health institutions have also noted a significant increase in STD occurrence amongst middle-aged adults (40-59 years) in Canada.
