Orange for Orangutans Day raises awareness of the plight of orangutans and the threat to their natural habitat. Everyone is encouraged to wear orange on this day. People hold local events such as orange parties and orange cake bake sales to create funds for orangutan conservation through Protect Me and My Tree Appeal and the Orangutan Release Programme in Borneo.
