Tater Day could be referred to as trade day, as it began in 1843 in Kentucky as a means for farmers to trade seed, roots and sweet potatoes with each other in advance of the next planting season. It later expanded to all sorts of products and services including arms, livestock and animal pelts. Today it is a full weekend event, usually held on the first weekend of April with Tater Day topping off events on the last day.
Tater Day is the oldest and longest running trade day in the United States.
