National Prostate Health Month (NPHM) is a month-long awareness campaign in the United States each September.
It aims to increase awareness among men on the importance of prostate health and provide better health screenings for the early detection of cancer. Prostate Cancer is one of the top killers of men over 50.
Created by the American Foundation for Urological Disease (AFUD) in 1999, now known as the Urology Care Foundation, it became an official government-sponsored awareness month in 2001 through Senator Conrad Burns.
By 2003, President George W. Bush supported designating the month of September as National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
The United Kingdom has a similar awareness month in March.
